“Major Tom” was painted intending to depict a traditional astronaut, but midway through I realized the helmet needed something more whimsical, so I gave it my dog, Jojo. That simple switch transformed the painting from homage to exploration into something gently humorous, grounding the vastness of space in loyalty and trust. Jojo’s calm, searching expression turns the astronaut into a companion that is brave, curious, and quietly human despite the suit.
